Artisan 2018

The artwork is based on pattern studies of crocheted baby blankets made while researching mothering and grief rituals of the nineteenth century. The patterns were developed for a memorial to infant mortality located in a former cemetery in Newcastle. Expanding on the restrictive parameters of public artwork the digitally created pattern was used in various ways to apply pattern to different mediums. Cloth and paper have been treated with laser cutting, embossing and machine embroidery.

Composition of 36 individual patterns. A 3x3 grid is occupied by sets of 4 patterns creating a quilt like arrangement.
