After Blue Jean Sisters 2021

Tweed Regional Gallery

The bi-product of making hundreds of dolls from second-hand jeans is that there are many off-cuts and unusable parts such as waistbands and seams. Reusing these misfit pieces became a preoccupation throughout the project.

Minime is a Latin word meaning ‘not at all’ or ‘nothing’ and is used as the title for the new artworks in the exhibition that are made from waste and leftover material. It is a word I learned from studying the work of textile artist Sheila Hicks describing small, exploratory artworks that are made from spontaneous materials she finds at hand. I have used this word as it captures the way we see clothes we no longer value or want.
